Apnea patients, the blood oxygen content decreased, carbon dioxide levels rise, this change can improve the upper airway dilator activity. The alcohol and a decrease of the upper airway dilator response to low oxygen and high carbon dioxide, thereby promote the occurrence of upper airway obstruction. Sleep apnea patients often hold back awake, this is actually a protective effect for patients, since choke after waking may terminate apnea and resume normal breathing. Alcohol can increase awareness of response thresholds, suppression choke awake situation, to extend the apnea time. Clinical observations also indicate that alcohol makes a simple snorers apnea occurs, so that apnea patients sicker.

One Response to “Does Drinking Alcohol Cause Snoring?”

  1. Anytime I drink alcohol, whether I’m completely sloshed or even just one drink with dinner, the left side of my body seems to become extremely heavy. While the right side of my body stays relatively normal. I’ve heard that the right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. If this is true, why does alcohol seem to affect the right portion of my brain more so than the left side? Also, what does the right side of your brain control (as far as motor functions)?.
