Snoring is caused by a narrowing of the airway to the point where air is partially obstructed causing the snoring noise to occur. It doesn’t get more complicated than that. If the airway is completely closing cutting off breathing in the process, then we call that obstructive sleep apnea. If this is happening you need to see a doctor immediately.
The preventative steps to eliminating snoring can also eliminate sleep apnea.
The first thing that should be considered here is weight. People who are overweight build up fat and tissue all over their body, including the neck and throat. Losing just 10 pounds of bodyweight can decrease or even stop snoring all together.
If you are as thin as a rail or you are certain that your snoring has nothing to do with your weight, then the next option you need to consider is throat exercises. These special exercises strengthen the muscle and tissue in your throat so the airway doesn’t narrow during sleep and cause snoring.
If you are certain your snoring has nothing to do with being overweight. And, you have faithfully tried the throat exercises by still snore. Then and only then would I consider you a candidate for snoring surgery. However, this decision needs to be made with your doctor.
There are also some effective snoring remedies which can help you stop snoring in short term
Sleep on your side, not your back. Sew a tennis ball to the back of a shirt and wear it while you sleep if you need to. Also, sleep with your head higher up. There are also special pillows you can buy for this.
Do not eat, drink or take anything that will cause your throat to relax and narrow. Do not drink alcohol, take pain medication or any medicine that causes you to relax before going to bed. These items cause the muscles in your throat to relax and your throat to narrow.

Snoring is caused by a vibration of the uvula and soft palate and is experienced by almost half of the population at some stage in life. Also sleep apnea causes snoring. Another reason is that as men get older there is an area of skin in the throat that folds over and blocks the air passage thus causes breathing problems.

There are many snoring remedies available, some more effective than others at helping to cure your snoring problem. Anti snoring devices like mouthpieces, chin straps, and snoring pillows are often tried, although I found a far more effective form of help in snoring exercises.
Weight Loss
If you visit any doctor or health clinic I would be surprised if they do not recommend you to loss weight to help stop snoring (that is if you are overweight off course). Losing weight is off course not only helps with the treatment of your snoring but helps with your overall well being as a person. As such this is a very good option to consider.
Do not drink or take any drugs before bed
Alcohol in the form of wine, beer or spirits just before going to bed can relax the tissue enough to cause snoring. Likewise, any kind of drug that causes muscles to become relaxed will also relax the tissue in your throat and cause snoring. If you need to drink or take any drugs, if possible try to take them at least 2 hours before retiring. If you have been prescribed to take any medication before bedtime please consult your doctor before changing any drug taken patterns.

Another one of the many solutions to stop snoring is a snoring pillow. These specially designed foam snoring pillows are made in a way to keep a person sleeping on their side instead of their back.
Food that can help snoring
Dairy products are known to increase mucous production in some people. This extra mucous can restrict the airway passages and lead to, or intensify, snoring.
The consequence of removing a particular food or restricting the intake of a food group should be discussed with a medically qualified professional.
Exercise cures for snoring
sticking your tongue out straight ahead and gently tiring to increase the stretching of your tongue farther each day can help reduce snoring. Another tongue exercise cures for snoring can be done by sticking out your tongue the farthest you can and try to reach out for your chin.
